Parents have appreciated my energy & ability to connect with their children and my willingness to do tasks such as cooking, cleaning and tidying. They have also liked my desire to make sure household rules are followed through on when I am looking after the kids.

I'm always up to join in with whatever game the kids are playing (as long as it's safe!) as well as contribute my own ideas for what to do. Kids that I have babysat have loved that I engage with them, care about their interests & ideas and do more than just watch them.

Whenever I babysit, I feel that my mood is lightened. It gives me a break from the weighty intellectual work that I do in my degree and reminds me of the importance of play. Even if it's a difficult day and children are upset and tired or siblings are fighting, the act of caring and being there for them through that gives me a meaningful sense of being useful and relied upon. I also really enjoy building relationships with the children over time and learning about what they love to do and how I can best support their growth & flourishing.
